Anybody had....

Post a new topicby Texaslittleangel on Wed Apr 30, 2008 8:52 am

Migraine's affect their ability to think clearly?

I have been taking various triptan pills for so long I honestly believe I am no longer functioning the way I used to nor am I as focused as I used to be. I feel as if i have a series of black holes in my brain (for a lack of a better way to explain things lol).

I have suffered from migraines for a few years now and they seem to be getting worst as time goes by. For the past six months or so I have been getting at least a migraine a week. For the past month or two (out of the six) I have been waking up almost on a daily basis with that feeling of a migraine about to hit (oh so hard to describe the feeling). Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. BUT I am now affraid of taking my migraine pills because I feel they are affecting the way my brian functions.

I had a CT scan yesterday and from what I read on the report, it seems to be clear; no abnormalities. I have been putting off seeing a neurologist but I have finally made an appointment to see if they can shed some light...

Migraine are such a horrible illness!!! So unpredictable, so hard to attack and prevent, so myterious! UGH.

Any who, am i the only one feeling as if I am loosing my mind or have any of you also experienced the lack of alertness/concentration etc.?

cheers,
TxLA

First to the forum...I had questions about my daughter and hearing what you are going through just scares me. I am glad that the Cat Scan came out clear; but like you; you sort of want something to show up so it will explain what is going on....my daughters neurologist is having her do a MRI and an EEG. We go next week. My daughter is having seizure type episodes along with the migraine pain. She is on Topomax; so we hope this will help some. So I do and I don't want nothing to show up on the test...It is so mysterious; that it drives me crazy...

Good luck and keep us posted. Not much to say as we are just getting started with our fight ourselves.

Take care.....i would like to hear more about what your neurologist says.

Hi purple girl,

So sorry to hear about your daughter! It is indeed such a mysterious illness. I have been placed on the waiting list to see the neurologist so, there goes that for a while.

I have however looked into visiting a chiropractor and getting my spine and neck aligned. My boss mentioned it helped her alleviate her headaches and her husbands along with his insomnia. So I figure I would give it a go.

I have also been going to an acupuncturist for the past three week but so far no clear results. During my next visit I will probably ask for some natural Chinese medicine and give that a try as well.

At this point, I am tired of taking hard core medication that I believe is affecting me tremendously in my day to day life. So, i am giving the holistic approach a try and see how that goes. It is sad how desperate we get :(

How old is your daughter? I am 32

Well my daughter just turned 16. She has been carried by emt to ER from school the last couple of times when we really didn't know what was going on. It's been a very weird ride. Back in January when the second episode happened, we haven't seen a neurologist and just saw her pediatrician. We did go get a MRA done (checks for anerisums)(sp?) but all clear so her pediatrician just diagnose her having a neurological Psychosis reaction to the flu. Well they didn't even test for the flu...just had no idea what was going on with her. So when this last episode happen; once again at school, they had no other choice but to transmit her back to the ER. That's when they said we needed to see a neurologist...He has ordered a MRI and an EEG for next Tuesday. I will mention that during the January episode; they did a cat scan and a spot on the frontal lobe was found, but the MRA showed no signs of being anything. So I think. Guess it's a waiting game until next week..

So sorry you are having to wait to see a doctor. That is awful. And you are young....I am 39 myself and really haven't seen anything like this. I hope that you will find some comfort in holistic approach. I will keep you in my thoughts that you will find some kind of peace with your illness.

Stay strong and thanks for posting. Just having someone with similar stuff helps....Take care.

I have been doing the Nero, CT scan, MRI, Accupunture, Massage, Herbmedicines, excersise, cut out sugar, caffeine, Ear, Nose & Throat doc (sinus) Chiroprator: All of this in 2years. I am currently seening a pain specialist to keep me on a pain medicine regimn. I have to take 3- 10mg Hydrocode, 3x a day to function like a normal person. I am only 33. I remember the day I got the headache and it has been there ever since. Has never went away. I have been seeing the Nero for 2 years- I have done: neck traction, Laser thereapy and deep message. Every migraine/headache med you could try. Nothing works. I have even stayed of the pain meds for 3 weeks to see if i had been using them too much....worst 3 weeks of my life. I just hope the go away.........

Hi rrkelley,

Have you tried contacting MD Anderson Cancer research institute in Houston? For the type of situation you are going through your family doctor nor your specialist would be able to help.

I had a good friend who was going through some bad head and ear aches that no doctor was able to get rid of. He then made an appointment at MD Anderson and within a couple of months he was back to normal and pain free.

I am not sure where you live but if you are not close to Houston, try locating a similar closer to where you live.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the info. Unfortuantly, I live in Florida. Would I just look up Cancer Centers?

I would give MD Anderson a call and see if they can recommend you a place in FL [moderator note: phone number has been removed]

Give it a go and see if that helps. Let me know if they were able to assist :)
