mysterious migrainesI'm 21 years old, actually i'm about to be 22. So if my math is off i apologize.
My family, on my dad's side, has a history of migraines a sever magnesium deficieny, and horrible dysmenhorrea ( sp?). I started to get these weird attacks when I turned elevn years old. I was in school and my classmate was reading her story for me to give suggestions on. There was no recognizable warning except the strange butterflies in my stomach when my heart leapt into my throat at the speed of light. A pulling sensation began, like going down in an elevator really fast. An angry buzz filled my ears and vision. I lost all senses as the numbing weight took over my body and I blacked out. According to my classmates, I slumped over and started twitching, making them think I was searching for a dropped pencil. When I came to I was sitting up in my chair in a cold sweat, nauseas, and i felt like i got hit by a truck. I vomitted right after I had 2 episodes like this in a single week. I was checked out by the doctors and they could find no explanation for the cause. They even ran tests for diabetes like they'd done for countless years since i was a small child, and had found nothing. The next 3 years I had maybe once a year. I got my period at 13 and had the most horrific pain - yay hormones! Then I got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes Again, these episodes only happened maybe once a year. I'm pretty sure i skipped ages 14 and 15 without any sign of them, only pain beind needle pricks and bad periods. I moved states at 16 and ended up in good old Georgia. The episodes returned, myabe once or twice a year. So these things weren't chronic, just scary. At the age of 22 my older sister came home pregnant and my mother decided that her 2 younger and sexually acitve girls needed to be on birth control Neither my younger sister or could physically tolerate it. My younger sister's body reacted quickly, where as mine took some more time to build up and be noticed. Around my period i would get violently ill for no apparent reason and end up in the emergency room because I could not stop vomiting.Due to my diabetes this is extremely dangerous becasue it leads to Diabetic Ketone Acidosis ( and Coma and eventually death. Pleasent huh ?) I would vomit so hard i would bleed from my esophagus and turn green. The strangest part of the whole thing was startign to vomit at 3 a.m. and be fine by dinner time that evening. i would eat full meals and wake up at 3 a.m. to puke them up again. I was not pregnant, i was on birth control and it was making my head hurt. I stopped taking the pill, but the period puking continued and the strange episodes from before increased in frequency. They were a little less intense, but my emergency room trips continued. Finally i turned to alternative medicine, because i could not fo the life of me get any answers from the scientific medical community. The NeuroChiropractor diagnosed me with Migraines. He gave me some supplements to take and some guidelines for things to avoid. That, for the most part, took care of the classic migraine symptoms. Felt like a caveman with the only things i could eat being meat and vegetables. The fact that I could not tolerate too much outer stimulation made it almost impossible to go anywhere. You can only do the caveman act for so long, so at the age of 20 i ended up finally going to a neurologist to get a diagnosis and he said Migraine Now when I went to the E.R. I could get proper help rather than just anti- puke pills. Because of my Diabetes, however, I could not take the medication being subscribed and most of the other drugs out there are too much for my sensitive system. That simple diagnosis has helped me find other ways of dealing with my classic migraines, and at the age of 21 the volume of my symptoms has been turned way down. Those strange drop episodes, however are increasing in both intenisty and frequency again. I've had and MRI and Numerous QEEG's looking for abnormalities and my brain was declared to be one of the most normal looking and healthy that the doctors have seen. Does anybody have any idea what they could be ?
