symptoms during prodomal phase of migraine

Post a new topicby muralgirl on Sat May 17, 2008 7:11 pm

Last year I had my first migraine with aura. I actually was not having head pain at the time, just visual changes, which frightened me. I had had the day or two previous full blown migraine pain. Interestingly, I never was convinced that my headaches were migraines until then. Now, I am looking at a number of things that happen to me just prior to a migraine and am wondering if anyone has had these symptoms as well.

For a couple days before, I am extremely, extremely tired. I could sleep all day. Sometimes, and this is one of the earliest symptoms I ever had, and one of the most confusing, I get a feeling of lightheadedness that I would only normall attribute to unsatiable hunger. It is that feeling that I will pass out if I don't eat. While the food is going down, it disappates, but the second it's in my stomach, I feel famished again....although I know I can't be.( I only weigh 103 lbs, so I'm not making excuses for over eating!) Finally, I have this thing going on with my eyelids. My eyelids will start to look uneven. The right one won't open all the way, and the left one gets kind of crepey and burns, as if there is a hair stuck under the lid.

Just curious if anyone else has had these symptoms.
I am a 47 year old woman.

Hello; I'm just new to this forum and find it interesting and replying to postings. I have been a migraine sufferer for quite a long time. I get the aura and flashing patterns first and then I usually lose some vision in my left eye, then the pain sets in. You mentioned being tired first.... I get like that too!! Have you noticed that you yawn more frequently a day or so ahead of it? I also get very tired too. Sometimes I don't realize its coming by just yawning, but I have noticed Im doing that. I also have a lot of pain just above my eyelids, just below my eyebrow. Sounds odd, but it happens! If I touch that area its so very soar after a migraine; not sure why though??? My last migraine I had on July 20th and my eye area is still very soar. Someone told me that my left eye was puffy and looked swollen while I was having the migraine attack. My doctor put me on amitriptyline, which I take the little pill before bedtime. It seems to have relaxed me a bit and that my help a little, but so far it has not stopped them. I try not to eat foods that trigger them and I have to be careful with high humidity and barometric pressure in the air, that makes me sick too!! I live on a farm and work outdoors a lot and the weather affects my work it the air conditions are poor. My indoor work is less a trigger for me. I am also a woman in my 40's. Good luck to you...
