Vitamin D

Post a new topicby Chichastar1987 on Fri Sep 19, 2008 12:14 am

I am post-menopausal and have experienced enough bone loss to be worrisome. I currently take estrogen (hormone replacement therapy, specifically to slow bone loss), drink milk 2x a day and take Tums.

Apparently, we all need more Vitamin D than previously thought -- I believe the current recommendations are 1000 IUs a day. The current recommendation is to spend 15 minutes in the sun every day -- but where I live, this doesn't work between September to March (and we're all bundled up in our down coats, hats and mittens, anyway!).

I am not much of a milk drinker and don't care for most milk products. Are there other good sources for Vitamin D other than pills? (Tanning booths won't work - wrong type of UV rays.)
