Overview
Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is severe inflammation that results when vaginal and cervical infections spread into the uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, and surrounding tissues. PID can cause serious damage to a woman's reproductive tract, causing infertility, chronic pain, and tubal pregnancy.
