chronic pelvic pain

Post a new topicby glad2Bhere on Mon Sep 08, 2008 12:00 pm

Does anyone suffer chronic pelvic pain as a result of their PID? I had laparotomy to remove a 6cm TOA at the end of april. It seems since that I have "cramps" everyday and they are becomming more frequent and more painful. My Dr. says this is normal as my infection was so severe and she put me on birth control pills. I've tried excercise, otc drugs like advil, and a heating pad. Im becomming tolerant to the advil and im afraid that my constant use of it will not have good effects. Im only 24 and a hysterectomy is out of the question for me right now (im praying for a family at some point). Are there any other alternatives to help the pain? Ive read antidepressants may help....any experience with these and info on personal experience would be lovely! Thank you

Hi ..yes antidepressants may help with the pain ..but the only thing is youd be going down a route thats difficult to get out of ..regarding antideprssants ni dont know if they would give you Amitriptyline or something like that ...but you didnt mention your periods ..are you still having them |? is the pain worse leading up to and during a period than it was before you had PID ? . Aso are you sure this is not ovarian cyst or IBS or both ? with my PID i had ovarian cyst (unrelated to PID) but it added to the severe pain but i also have IBS ..i have noticed ovulation more painful than before and sometimes severe mid month but and goes into my side and back ..middlesmertz ...but im wondering before you go down the antidepressant route ..i would make sure to rule out things like IBS which can be severe ! and cause the same pain as you mention and also cysts or any other gyne conndition ...

its worth baring in mind that it can and does take ages to get back to normal and longer if you have had any operations or any surgery on pelvic area ...also operations on pelvic area may cause further infection ..which again would delay recovery and in some cases make matters worse ...and cause further damage ...which nwouldnt ness be caused by the initial bout of PID .

I know everyones pain tolerance levels are different ..mine ntook a year and bit more to settle and at one point i enquired about the pill for pain and for lighter periods but decided against it ..things settled nicely on thier own ..but i would look into other reasons nbefore using antidepressants or perhaps if you do only use them for a short period of time ..with the advil try to wean off them and see how you go on without them ..dr is best to see on this one ..regarding having kids there is the egg freezing option ...or ivf ...but hopefully you will be ok and things will settle for you i hope you feel better soon ..

I have had 2 periods since the surgery but they were so extremely painful I was laid up in bed for at least a week.....my doctor put me on seasonique so I wouldnt have to go through the pain as often.....the pain in between periods is worse especially around the time i am ovulating...I also have lower back pain...I go back to the doctor next monday then will be going for ultrasounds at the end of september after my next period...I guess then I will see where I'm at.

Wish you all the best of luck for your hospital check . I think but dont know that its just taking ntime to settle, your periods and such after PID , reading similar things that happened and still does regarding periods ect ..but you are in good hands with the doctors checking you out shortly and cross fingers this pain will ease for you as soon as possible ...im tackling painful thrush thats cropped up today !! i had this for ages month after month after my PID but never before i got PID in my life ...i feel a bit miserable but im hoping gyne daktarin will ease it ..or il go for some Dalacin ...

Take care - and do post after your hospital visit to let us know how you get on.
