FOR ANYONE READING WHO HAS PID FROM CHLAMYDIAL INFECTIONHi to anybody reading who has been told they have developed PID through chlamydia and are worried about fertility. Just happened to be reading on the net from which seems a reliable site . I would like to share it with anyone feeling distressed and coping with PID as a result of STI...
PID - (chlamydia) in most women who have it, chlamydia travels no futher than the cervix , But in about 1 in 10 it travels futher upwards through the uterus into the Fallopiean tubes. Other types of bacteria may then move in making the inflammation worse. PID could be painful but can occur without any pain. If the infection is treated at this stage the tube may recover completely, or some scarrin and other damage may remain. In Sweden where young women are screened for chlamydia the number of women with PID has halved. However, while it is true that chlamydia can cause infertility, this happens in only a small number of women who have it. The risk is not precisely known, but a Swedish study in the early 1990s suggest the following figures: If 100 women get a chlamydia infection, 20 will develop PID. Of those 20 who develop PID 2 will have difficulty conceiving and 1 will have an eptopic pregnancy. The more times a woman has PID the greater damage to the tubes and greater chance of later problems. So, if those 20 women had another attack of PID 4 would become infertile and 2 would have eptopic pregnancies. If those 20 women had 3 or more attacks of PID 8 or 9 would become infertile and 4 would have eptopic pregnancies. The good news is chlamydia is easily treated usually with doxycycline . this treatment is over 95% effective ! if you take the full course usually twice day for 7 days or exactly as instucted by your doctor other antibiotics azithromycin, erythromycin are sometimes used instead . . It is essential that the parner is treated as well as if he is not you could catch it agin from him or her. This is bad thing for women because the more times a woman has chlamydia infection the greaterher risk of later infertility dont have sex even with a condom until both of you have compleated your treatment. You could feel anxious about telling your partner about the infection. Sometimes partners do not believe they could have it tthemselves because they probably have no symptoms. So explain that most people with chlamydia do not know they have it , if you think that explaining to a parner could be problematic talk to a dr ect. I felt it might be a bit of a help especially to anyone thinking its awful i have these two things - just like i did when i had them but it dosent mean the end of fertility if you tackle the problem as soon as you notice you are having any symptoms -really go as soon as possible !!! i can trace the beginning of my chlamydia i really felt sure it was 7 to approx 10 days after having unprotected sex with my partner it just seemed like a very bad UTI or cystitis as you call it - and that started all the antibiotics off that just masked the problem .!! I did inform my ex partner but even in his middle age he just said "ive got no symptoms and informed me sarcasticly "IM WAITING" yes of course he might not have wanted to admit this but i know that i did my best to be honest and say seek treatment for future partners. It seems that sometimes people think at age 39 it dosent happen but it does . It isnt the end of the world and i know of women who have been treated in pregnancy for chymydia and they were fine and had beautiful healthy babies. I hope some of the information will ease a little bit of anxiety for women who feel some panic.
