i think i have PID

Post a new topicby jconstance on Sun May 24, 2009 11:40 am

Hi everyone im new to the forum and my story is as follows:

i am 23 years old and a few months back around september time i went for a Internal Examination as a result i was given Metronidazole to treat bacterial bacterial vaginosis i had never heard of the condition so had suffered with the symptoms for a long time. after the treatment i began bleeding alot and put this down to the fact i stoped taking the pill in november but 6 months on and im still bleeding i never stop bleeding for longer then 5 days and even then im dotting so i went back to my doctor he told me as soon as i stop bleeding to have another internal done because he thinks i might have PID (caused by the bacterial vaginosis) or polycytic ovaries we discused the symptoms and now i am really worried because i have been suffering all the Symptoms of PID for a very very long time the thick or unusual vaginal discharge, bleeding between periods and terrible ache and pain in the lower abdomen. I have been having unprotected sex with my partner for six months and never had a scare infact the opposite i dont stop bleeding and i am worried i have had PID so long it may have spread and i might be unable to conceive. Has anyone else on her experianced such a severe case of PID?
any infor or advise would be great. i dont think the goverment inform younge people good enough on some conditions as i am sure many young people like myself will suffer for a long time not knowing the symptons are not normal and how severe it can be without treatment.

thanks

I am not suffering from anywhere near as many problems as you seem to be so i can't help/advise you on that front. But i do agree that their is not enough recognition for this disease and that woman our age are not made more aware of it.
I may have PID, doc has put me on antibiotics as a precaution. However i only went because i was in pain for a couple of days. I felt silly for going in case i was wasting their time. I was thinking it may have been trapped wind or something (sorry too much info) but my sister urged me to go to be sure. I have never heard of it before.
I'm sorry that you are having so many problems with it at the moment. Just be rest assured that you are getting it treated now. And when it comes to conceiving, if you do have any problems there is always the option of IVF. From what I've read up on it, your eggs should be ok.
Also, you may know this already but something that i just found out that my doc didn't even mention is that your sexual parter needs to be on antibiotics as well so that if he's carrying the bacteria its treated as well to avoid you getting re-infection.
Good luck and i hope everything goes ok x Kizzy

I agree with you about the government, not enough is being done to warn people or at least prepare people for the unknown because unfortunately PID can be caused by other bacteria other than the obvious STD so you can spend your whole life being careful, having regular PAP's to still get it, as i did. you do have the symptoms of this unfortunately, do you have endometriosis in the family? that doesnt usually cause abnormal discharge though but just a thought
