my 2nd attack- ouch!i could feel it happening again so went to gp for an emergency appt, she said i needed a pelvic exam but did not have tme in a 2 min slot. was told to go home and take painkillers! i was so upsett at not being taken seriously,,,,this is my fertility were talking about for gods sake!. i ended up going to A and E so i could get examined, swabed and get the antibiotics/painkillers. doctors dont seem to understand how horribly painfull and distressing this illness is. i wish i knew why ive got this again, the first time it was caused by the coil, i had everything else checked, no std's both me and my partner were treated anyway just to be on the safe side.
im so worried that its chewing up my tubes, we are trying for a baby. anyone out there?????
Re: my 2nd attack- ouch!Hey I know what u mean by nobody seems to care. I think I just got over my first case. It was horrible, the doctors couldn't even diagnose it!!! I'm living in China now, so that makes things so much worse. I just wanted to ask u, did u have pain after they said there was no more infection in your stomach??
Re: my 2nd attack- ouch!no, once the antibiotics kicked in the pain went realy quickly, within 3 to 4 days. are you on the correct ones? for both of my attacks i had doxycycline, metronidazole and a third one cefradine.
you should not still have pain! i have never had a follow up to say the infection has gone, thats the NHS for you! mind you, all the swabs always came back negative anyway, they only came up with the diagnoses from a process of elimination and what i told them. its nortoriosly difficult to diagnose. im just so worryied its going to happen again, also worried about my fertility. im so glad there is someone else i can talk to who has had it. you must see a doc again if you are still in pain after 3 or 4 days of treatment, good luck!
Re: my 2nd attack- ouch!I know what you mean about not being able to get the treatment you deserve. I have a hard time finding information about PID from the hospital, doctors and from searching the internet. This too is my second occurance with PID. The first time I was treated with antibiotics before they tested for STDs so I dont know how I even got it. This time (2 years later) I was tested but now have to wait for 2-3 weeks for results. I feel treatment embarrassing because of the assocation to a STD. I too am worried about fertility because we are trying to conceive and this month I got cramps shortly after ovulation which I mistook for implantation cramps but turned out to be PID. How disappointing. Well best of health to you!
Re: my 2nd attack- ouch!hiya, well i have news! we scraped up enough money to go private and see a good gyne consultant qwuickley, she is going to do a laparoscopy on me on the 8th of jan to have a good look inside, to see if it was pid or not, and to see if any damage has been caused. im realy nervous as to what they will find but at least we will have some facts! she told me that in sweeden if a woman has suspected pid she has a laparoscopy asap as an emergency, its the ONLY way to diagnose it!
in know what you mean about being embarrased, people automaticly think its caused be std, for me my problems started when i had the myrina coil fitted. any way all the best to you both, here is some baby dust,,,! ps, ive been getting ovulation pain too, the gyne thinks it may be adhesions(i had appendicitus 2 years ago) wrapped around the ovary, when they swell for an egg thats when you feel the pain as its strangled. push for a laparoscopy from your gp!
Re: my 2nd attack- ouch!hi i am just going through my first episode of this infection, i had my appendix out last week and thats when they discovered it, me and my husband are being treated and we go back xms eve for the results. i am terrified that i will become infertile or that i will have great pain if i do ever concieve, in fact now im that scared im thinking of adopting as im so scared of becoming pregnant, please could you give me any words of wisdom as to how to become positive on this matter. much appreciated if you can thanks.
Re: my 2nd attack- ouch!sounds like its eptopic pregnancy you are afraid of. when i asked about thisto my consultant she told me that the risk is only a tiny bit higher than a woman who has never had it which is good news. the only way to tell if your tubes are damaged to the point of infertility is by doing a laparoscopy and this weird dye test where they put dye in your tube and see if it comes out the other end. if they are blocked all is not lost as you can then have ivf. even though the increased risk of eptopic is low its worth asking for an early(6 week) scan when you do get pregnant just to make sure that baby is where it should be.
i realy hope you recover well, take it easy, and remember, if you are still in a lot of pain 3/4 days into your antibiotics go back to the doc. also, dont let your self get constipated while you are ill as this will increase your pain! good luck, and dont worry, i have heard of many women having babies after pid.
Re: my 2nd attack- ouch!hello all, had my laparoscopy done,,,,nothing wrong, no damage, no blocked tubes!! just hope i dont get it again!
Re: my 2nd attack- ouch! This is for everyone on here. I have had two attacks of PID. I am currently being treated for the second. I agree with returning to the doctor after 3 - 4 days after anitbiotics and still have pain. HOWEVER, a complication from PID is abdominal / pelvic pain for several months to several years. So the earlier you see a doc the better. I also agree with the laparoscopy being done. I am getting scheduled for mine at my next appt. The inferility factor I am concerned with as well. We were just starting to "prepare" for getting ready to try for a baby when all this came about. I think doctors don't understand the pain associated with the disease. I have been in pain for 2 months thinking one thing after another when a my OBGYN finally saw me and realized this was serious. This attack is number 2 in 3 years. My advice is rest, antibiotics, and research. The more you know the more you can tell your doctor what you are experiencing. PUSH YOUR DOCTORS TILL THEY LISTEN OR FIND ANOTHER DOCTOR!!!!!! Also does anyone know anything about complication DURING pregnancy with a history with PID other than ectopic pregnancy? Best of luck to all and THANKS!
Re: my 2nd attack- ouch!hiya! in answer to your q, my consultant says its VERY rare to get pid during a pregnancy, which is good as those antibiotics are soooo nasty! hope you feel better soon!
