Living with PCOS

Hello. My story goes back 7 years ago. I started noticing that my cycle was lasting for a long period of time. The first time it lasted for 10 weeks straight. I tried a few doctors, even having a DNC, but no could tell me what was going on. So I decided to go to a different doctor. Within a few minutes he tells me that I have PCOS and that my brain is not getting the proper message from my uterus not to make estrogen. I am a lot like you. When I was 15, I had a period that lasted six weeks straight, and the doctors just put me on birth control pills to regulate my cycle. Then when I was 23, my husband and I wanted to start trying for children, and I had a 12 week striaght period. I went to an OB/GYN and she said that I have PCOS, but she didn't give me anymore advice except stay on birth control. This is because if I am not on birth control, then I just have my period for weeks on end until I get back on the meds. So, now I am going to an endocrinologist, and she is not satisfied with leaving my body like this. I also have a family history of thyroid cancer, and she is looking into the connections between my thyroid and the PCOS. The next phase of treatment my endocrinologist is looking at is using Metformin to see if that regulates my cycles and reduces my symptoms. I do not have answers for you, but I just want you to know that other women are struggling with this just like you are. Your story helped me, and I hope my helps you.
