Dear Fifteen and three months:

First, and foremost, I am so sorry that you had to endure such a horrible crime as rape. I am also sorry that it was the means of you conceiving your first child.

Second, I hope that you are getting all the help that you need to deal with the trauma of your rape. You really do need to get good counselling so you can work through the emotions of the experience. The worst thing you can do is bury those feelings. They refuse to remain buried and will reveal themselves in other ways that are not productive.

Third, I applaud your strength of character in your decision to keep your baby! Regardless of how he was conceived he is totally innocent and deserves a chance to fulfill his potential in this life. I know that you can indeed love this child without reservation, inspite of how he came to be. I went to school with a girl who was raped in junior high school and became pregnant as a result. She also kept her baby and is glad that she did. She told me that he is a blessing in her life and she can't imagine life without him! He is also the only child that she ever had.
