weak bladder due to polio and cystocele repair

Post a new topicby loisanne on Tue May 20, 2008 2:19 pm

I am facing surgery within the next two weeks. Have seen 4 surgeons and chose the one who I believe is the best. However, the urodynamics tests done on me(done twice) show that i have weak bladder muscles from polio.

My surgeon found that after this testing good things were revealed:
1. I do not leak urine
2. I do not retain urine
3. I held a normal amount of solution before needing to void.

As such, he has decided to do the cystocele repair and the vaginal repair with no sling. (All 4 of the surgeons I saw told me they would not use the sling due to the weak bladder muscles.

We learned from the test that other muscles took over for the weak ones and I am using them to urinate. One surgeon scared me absolutely silly when he told me that I may have to cath muself 3 times a day for the rest of my life.

Has anyone out there had good results? I don't need horror stories at this point. My cystocele is quite severe and coming out of the vagina. Pessary did not work for me.

Any good stories will surely help me with my courage which I desperately need.
thanks
