Very ConfusedHello. I just got my first UTI infection. I am not sure how long this is supposed to last. I started getting the symptoms 4 days before I went to the ER to get diagnosed. They gave me nitrofurantoin to heal the infection and phenazopyridine for the pain in the meantime. I wasn't given a time frame on how long it would take for the symptoms to go away, but I read it should take 1-3 days to start feeling better.
I am on my third day of antibiotics but the pain medication may be masking a lot of the pain, so there is no way for me to gauge how I am healing. However, I do still feel a slight burning sensation when urinating. I am very worried. I o have a follow-up appointment tomorrow, but I wanted to know if any of you have ever taken longer than three days to start feeling normal again. Of course I will not stop taking the antibiotics until the prescription has run out, but I just need to put my mind at ease so I can actually sleep through the night. This whole problem is giving me horrible anxiety Thanks.
Re: Very ConfusedYea, it has sometimes taken more than 3 days for me to begin feeling better. Especially when I first began to get UTIs. We all react to the antibiotics differently, so 3 days is just an average. Relax and drink lots of water, no coffee or alchohol and get rest.
I'm in the middle of my second UTI in 3 1/2 weeks. The antibiotic the doc gave me last time just didn't do it (Levaquin - first time I was ever given that), so I'm on Cipro now. Hope your follow up went well. Feel better soon.
