PID after leep

Post a new topicby clementine1 on Tue Jan 20, 2009 11:04 am

Hi, i think i may have PID. I recently had a leep procedure for abnormal cervical cells (for those who dont know, this procedure involves removing pre cancerous cells from the cervix picked up from a smear). After this things went fine for a few days then a discharge with odour began followed by very heavy bleeding. I went to my gp who said it wasnt normal and could be an infection. She took a swab and said she had to treat me before results and gave me antibiotics (metronidazole 400mg 3 times a day and augmentin 375mg 3 times a day). She told me it was urgent i took them that night and would otherwise maybe have to go to hospital. Ive been taking them for 5 days now and the bleeding and discharge have stopped so i guess they are working. Im just wondering if these problems could have been as a result of PID and if that's what the swab was for? I was just told 'infection' but she seemed to think it was quite a big deal and that it had to be treated quickly. Im wondering what the symptoms of it are and if they can just come on suddenely after a procedure like mine? Or is it possible i may have had it for yrs and the procedure made it worse? Are the antibiotics above usually prescribed for PID before an actual diagnosis? My swab results aren't back for another couple of days. As ive only been given a weeks supply of antibiotics, is it likely ill be given more? I had chlamidya a couple of years ago which as far as im aware was treated quickly so is unlikely to have spread. Im really confused, so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks x
